As promised, there will not be a new Lego Dimensions Starter Pack you need to buy this year.
Despite the lack of a Starter Pack though, you will have plenty of content to keep you busy throughout the year.
All expansion packs provide players with continued compatibility to use everything from waves 1-9 interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game. And no new starter pack is required, as all new packs will simply enhance the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack game and work with the existing LEGO Toy Pad
Lego Dimensions Wave 6
Wave 6 is scheduled to release on September 27, 2016.
Waves 7, 8, and 9 will then be spread out throughout the remainder of the year and into the first half of 2017.
Included in Wave 6 you’ll find:
Ghostbusters Story Pack #71242
Adventure Time Level Pack #71245
Adventure Time Team Pack #71246
Harry Potter Team Pack #71247
Mission: Impossible Level Pack #71248
A-Team Fun Pack #71251
What is the Story Pack?
The Story Pack is a new pack type this year. It’s the closest thing that you’ll see to a Starter Pack.
This first Story Pack (more are coming in future Waves) will recreate the upcoming Ghostbusters movie.
The Lego pieces in this set are actually designed to replace the setup currently on your Toy Pad.
The Ghostbusters Story Pack, based on the upcoming film, will provide a complete movie-based gameplay experience with six puzzle-packed levels and new LEGO Gateway bricks that allow players to build Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant atop the LEGO Toy Pad.
This pack will also unlock new types of gameplay.
The pack unlocks “Rip,” a new Toy Pad mode allowing players to tear open an alternate universe. In this mirror world, players have the ability to solve puzzles and affect objects and other items in the primary universe.
Additional Gameplay Modes
As we saw last year, using characters from different franchises allows you to unlock a unique Adventure World.
You can continue to unlock new Adventure Worlds this year with each new franchise added to the game, but they didn’t stop there…
All-new Battle Arenas will offer first-to-LEGO videogames competitive split-screen local gameplay for up to four players. LEGO minifigures included in the wave 6 through 9 expansion packs will come with special, golden Toy Tags which unlock a Battle Arena within the Free Play Adventure World of the corresponding entertainment brand. Each Battle Arena has four different gameplay modes and comes with its own traps, special powers and interactive environments that make every battle arena unique.
That’s right. Battle Arenas.
Legos Dimensions continues to prove that it can be done. I can’t wait to check these out.
Keep in mind that only the new characters from Waves 6-9 (with the gold bases) will unlock Battle Arenas, but I would assume that we’ll probably be able to fight with our old characters once the Arena is unlocked.
Over the course of the next year, Lego Dimensions will be adding 16 new franchises to the game. These include:
- Ghostbusters (2016)
- Adventure Time
- Mission: Impossible
- Harry Potter
- The A-Team
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
- The LEGO® Batman Movie
- The Goonies
- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Teen Titans Go!
- LEGO® City Undercover
- Knight Rider
- The Powerpuff Girls
- E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
As you can see there’s a rather wide range. A lot of properties from the 80’s and 90’s, but then a few brand new properties that are coming out this year.
All in all, it should be an exciting second year for Lego Dimensions!
